Areas in the North Section of Greater Buenos Aires

The districts concidered part of the North Section of Greater Buenos Aires find themselfs located to the north of the Federal Capital of Argentina. They all form part of the metropolitan area of the City of Buenos Aires, that is made up of the Federal Capital (City of Buenos Aires), The Northern Area, The Western Area, and the Southern Area of Greater Buenos Aires. At the moment, the districts in the North Area of Greater Buenos Aires have a lot of real estate construction and business. Everything ranging from closed neighborhoods and country houses to large expensive houses reflecing the high income of the people living in this part of Buenos Aires is what characterizes the Area. The Northern Districts contain many weekend residences, giving its districts a quiet feeling, with most of their activity taking place during the weekends, quite different from the City of Buenos Aires.

The Escobar area was fouded on October 8, 1959, made up of land formerly part of Pilar and Tigre. The town of Belen was designated as the districts center, and one year later the town was declared a city, its name changing to just Escobar. Belén de Escobar is made up by the following areas: Ingeniero Maschwitz, Escobar, Maquinista Savio, Matheu and Garin. Half way through the 20:th century the cultivation of fruits and vegetables were the main pillars of Escobar’s economy, and the district was also one of the main producers of flowers in the country....

General San Martin

San Martin is named after the general José de San Martín, the honorable Argentine leader in the battles agains Spain in The War of Independence. The former name of General San Martin, Santos Lugares de Rosas (Rosas' Holy Places) was changed in 1856 to avoid resentment about the defeat of Juan Manuel de Rosas who had many followers. Today San Martin is also known as the "Capital de la Tradicion" (Capital of Tradition), among other things because the writer Jose Hernandez (the author of "Martin Fierro" was born there....

José C. Paz

José C. Paz was a great diplomat and journalist, the founder of the newspaper "La Prensa" (The Press) that passed away in 1912. His great friend Altube, supported by the people living in the area, pays tribute to him by forming a Tribute Commission to honor the journalist let by General José Garmendia. Jose C. Paz is a pretty important city having good infrastructure that includes: paved streets, public phones, public offices, and a good commercial district. In the districts central square there is a monument to Manuel Belgrano and in front of it the Church of San Jose....

Malvinas Argentinas

Malvinas Argentinas was created on October 20 1994 on lands that were until then part of the a district that used to be known as General Sarmiento, and a smaller portion of land from the neighboring district of Pilar. Malvinas Argentinas has a total surface area of 63.8 km2. This area is very well placed in reference to to highways connecting all the areas of Buenos Aires. It is surrounded by highways leading to Pilar and Escobar and by the "Panamericana" Highway that is used daily for transportiing products internatinally to other countries that are part of the Mercosur....

Pilar in the North of Greater Buenos Aires has seen a good rate of growth since the beginning of the 1990:s. Several closed neighborhoods, country clubs and weekend houses have been attracting investors to the area for the past decades, and during the weekends the area explodes with life as the many families from the Capital of the country come to rest, doubling the number of inhabitants. The area of Pilar is 45 KM away from the City of Buenos Aires, while the districts main city, also called Pilar, is 57 KM away from The Capital of the Coutry. Pilar has a total surface area of 382 KM2....

San Fernando

The area of San Fernando is constantly growing, not only demographically but also urbanely and is therefore chosen my many doing "weekend tourism." The region offers beautiful sites year round, and also allows for water sports, fishing, and hunting. San Fernando houses a great amount of boats of all classes, and was because of this declared the "Nautical Capital of the Nation" on October 27 of 1972. The area is full of clubs, commerce and industry all connected to the nautical branch. The School of Technical Education N°1 educates specialist in Naval Engineering....

The area of San Isidro is more that 300 years old. It was founded on October 14th, 1706. With time a town was formed surrounding the chapel by humble people working in their homes, fishing, or as small merchants. As time went on, the people of Buenos Aires, realizing the beauty of San Isidro, started buying real esate properties there and converting them into their summer residences, eventually becoming main homes. As a whole it is a very attractive area to the North of the city of Buenos Aires....

San Miguel (along with Jose C. Paz and Malvinas Argentinas) was created wheb the former area General Sarmiento was devided on October 20, 1994. nside the limits of the San Miguel district you can find the National School of Warrant Officers named "Juan Gregorio Lemos" and "Campo de Mayo" (Field of May), which is one of the most important fields in Argentina. In 1960 military conflicts took place on that field. The city of San Miguel is the main one in the area of the same name, the landscape is rather flat and there aren’t any rural spaces, at least not specifically rural....

The city of Tigre is a coastal city on the North-East shores of Greater Buenos Aires, or the Southern shore of the "Rio de la Plata". Asides from serving as a link between the City of Buenos Aires and the Delta, Tigre is by itslef a favorite weekend goal for locals and it is one of the most popular spots for tourists in all of Argentina, because of its colse location to the City of Buenos Aires. One of the things that attracts most people to Tigre is the "Puerto de Frutos" (Fruit Harbor), where you will find a large variety of small stores selling all kinds of ornaments for the house, garden, and personal use....

Vicente López

Vicente Lopez is located in the Nothern part of Greater Buenos Aires. The area was delimited in 1905 on territory belonging to the district of San Isidro. Vicente Lopez has always been a residential area. From the country houses that abounded the area it went to the cute houses that can be seen today. Near the train station (that is around a hundred years old) there are some stores over the Maipu and Libertador Avenues, but residences and Clubs dominate the district. Vicente Lopez has avariety of places to visit like The Ecologic Reserve, The Ecologic Reserve. and the Paseo de la Costa....
